Why I chose Crowds
At first I struggled with what exam question I should pick however there was one question that had my attention more and that was crowds. The reason why I chose crowds because there is another meaning behind it faces have different expression so when I start taking images I want to capture people everyday faces and some of my images I will take would focus on the image. There are many things I know could do and focus on crowds and it would be good to experiment more. The first thing I am going to start with is taking normal images (basic images not to hard) outside school of crowds and try and have a focus point after that I will develop my image and start developing a final pieces and many more I will keep some images but my plan is taking lots of images.
Mindmap
This mind map explains how i'm going to take my images and what the themes of my images are and it tells me what type of project I'm going to do with crowds I am going to keep going back to this mind map for help if I get stuck.
Alex Prager
Alex Prager is very unique and different with her images as you can see two of the images are similar however she always has a focus point in every photograph she takes for example it could be someone wearing something different or someone looking at the camera or how the crowds are standing or moving. Some of Alex Prager photographs looks like they have been told what to because they may have the same posture and heads position I feel like she could be mored natural when taking photographs. My aims are going to be take image more naturally and capture people in the moment.
This image is my favourite of Alex Prager the reason why is in the crowd there is only one person that is different and is looking at the camera. Alex Prager uses bright colours in her images and it makes it stand out more if you look closely everyone has different facial expression and this is good to capture in images the focus point in this image is the lady in the blue because the outfit is a different colour to everyone else and she is the only one looking up and has a newspaper in her hand so this draws us in. Alex Prager forces her crowds which is different to the other artist because Randy Oslon is more natural and capturing it in the moment she keeps the people close together so it shows that it's very busy I'm going to try and respond to Alex Prager because if i use Randy Oslon shutter speed and Lisa Larsen focus point and Alex Prager forced crowd I could really make an interesting image uses all the artist ideas and mine.
Tate morden - Dora Maar
I went to the Tate Morden to go and look at some images and I found it very useful because Dora Maar was different all of her images was I sections of years and they had a theme of black and white she focused on detail a lot and all of her work was by her or someone painted her. Some of her images are abstract and it really draws you in I am going to try and make my images abstract when I start taking them and experimenting them because it would allow more people to look at them and have there own point of view. I didn't read her response to the images until after because I wanted to have my own ideas on her images and have my own views. When I was walking around her images was developing and becoming different when I start making my pieces I want people to think my images are abstract and they get better when you look at them looking at these images gave me some ideas of how I want to take my images and show them. Dora Maar images where in sections off years so one section would be images in 1933 etc.
Lisa larsen
Lisa Larsen is different to Alex Prager all of Lisa Larsen images are mono chrome I feel like she did this because it captures everyone expression more and it tells more of a story this is good because you can have your own ideas no one not really looking at the camera it's a good reason because she captured moment in life and crowds and looking at images that have crowds really makes you look at the images more, sometime the crowd can tell a sad story or a happy story and that is what I am trying to do with my images. Lisa Larsen focus on peoples heads this is different because it allows you to have a different view there are different shapes for peoples heads so this might be the reason why.
This is one of the best images from Lisa Larsen because as you can see there is only one person looking at the camera and everyone is looking in different directions. I am going to try and take images similar to this however the person that looks at this image is happy so this is one of my themes for crowds its good to focus on expressions in crowds. The focus point in this image is the girl because she is smiling right at the camera which draws you in to her and the people around her. Lisa Larsen is very simple I may not create a response to Lisa Larsen because her images are not eventful or exciting I might used the idea that she has her images in black and white however this isn't the approach I want to take. Lisa uses one person in the crowd to focus on and I'm going to try and develop that idea.
Randy olson
Randy Olson is different to the other two photographers and I like his images more because there is more life to it and the colour tell a story which is interesting and these crowds are all of busy people which is basically everyday life. The fact that it is a different location makes his images more interesting to look at he also involves transport in his images which also shows crowds and a busy life. I am going to try and be creative with my images like Randy Oslon. Randy Olson doest focus on one thing in his picture he uses the whole picture as a focus point however the image with the taxi there is a focus point which is the taxi. He uses a shutter speed when creating his image he may use this to make his images look more busy and eventful.
This is the image I like the most out of Randy Oslon because the colours are inspiring. His images also shows everyday life which has transports this makes the image look better as well because the cars shows that its busy and there is a crowd of cars and a crowd of people the colours are bright. Randy Oslon is different to all the other artist because he doesn't focus on one person. Randy Oslon also capture people walking which makes the image look out of focused. I'm going to try and respond to this image because its very interesting how he used a shutter speed and it allows he people and the transport to be out of focus this shows that it makes the crowd more busy and exciting.
My first set of images
These are my first images that I have taken for crowds for my first attempt I was quite shocked that I produced these images. Some of my images are blurred out and out of focused this was good because it was an accident that I took those pictures. Now I am going to take more images like this and post my progress on the way because for my first photoshoot it was successful. Im still thinking about what I could with all my images but once I get enough images i'm going to think about what i'm going to do print them out and lay them and see if I could do a collage or a book.
Successful images
These are my best images so far for my first photoshoot. I want to keep develop them by doing some images that are out of focused and when I take pictures of people walking I want to show that they are walking. Some of my crowds are going to be based on everyday life some are going to be focused on night and day so a contrast all my images are going to be slightly different or different. My next photoshoot is going to be similar to these 4 images because I like how I took these photos because they are no the same to my other images. Next time i'm going to experiment with using monochrome with my images because I want to see if some images look better with bright colours or if they look more exciting with monochrome it will be a contrast.
2nd set of images
These images are a little bit different I feel like that they could of been better i've done some images in monochrome and I like the images I am going to keep taking images like this and experiment more with my images so I can improve and get the best quality. I also need to stop taking pictures of the back of people heads because it doesn't really show crowds. Some of my images that are out of focus are god and i'm going to do more like that.
Successful images
These images are my best images that I have taken this week the first image is successful because I tried taking images with monochrome and it really brings out the shapes and the expressions on people faces I also focused on the building in this image and changed the angle. The second image is successful because it shows everyday life and the expressions on people face are more happy also there is transport which shows my crowds are busy. The third image is successful because its has more space and there are some people going one direction and others going another direction.
3rd set of images
These images are more successful then my last set because they show more of crowds I need to start exploring what I could do for my final piece with all these images I tried to get everyday objects that you see and transport in my photographs to show a busy life and an everyday life. Next thing I could do is try and have someone in the photo so they could be the main focus. My next focus could be trying to have someone in the image and focusing on them while having a crowd behind them.
4th set of images
These images are different to the ones I've taken before because the images that I’ve taken before are nearly the same location also this crowd different because it’s rush hour and the spacing of the people are different. Also the angles of the image is different to the ones I have taken before i'm going to try and edit them into a black and whit colour so I can see if the image is more detail.
5th set of images.
These images are different to my other ones because its a different location and the weather is different these crowds are taken at different angles some of the images are focused some are out of focused and it makes my images look different so I am going to take more images like this. I am still not pleased with these images as I'm not satisfied with what is shown within the frame. I would like to see the frame full of action and 'movement'. By that I mean that I'd like the crowd to be busy, moving with one person still within the image. I'd like to experiment with various shutter speeds.
6th set of images
These images are vey different to my other images. What I tried to do is force a crowd with random people and have a shutter speed on my camera not all of my images have been shown but later on I should be able to upload them I tried to respond to Alex Prager and try and make images like her with a shutter speed so the crowd moving around would be blurred out and the person that I'm focusing on would be in focus. Next time I'm going to use a different camera so the shutter speed works because the camera I wasn't working as well because it never produced the photos that I wanted.Randy Oslon uses a shutter speed on some of his images which makes it look more interesting to look at. Lisa Larsen uses a focus point on one person which is interesting because thats the idea I want to do fore my next photoshoot.
7th set of images
These images are not my best ones because I tried to use a shutter speed but it wasn't that successful i'm going to try and make new images. I tried something different by adding someone else in.
8th set of images
I experimented with a shutter speed on a cannon camera I have notice that the shutter speed works well inside when there is less light exposure as you can see the first images shows the shutter speed woking well. Then I went outside and the shutter speed didn't work as well outside because the light was too exposed next time I will try my best to have a crowd and make the shutter speed work. Some of the images are out of focused. I used the shutter speed 1/80 to 1/100 and the ISO 100 this will make the shutter speed slower so the images are slower and blurred. 1/60 F36 ISO 400. 1/60 F7 ISO 800 OVER EXPOSED EDWARD MUYBRIDGE-MOVEMENT
